Our Program

We believe that children are capable and innately motivated learners. Our research-backed, project-based, emergent curriculum is guided by students’ interests, questions, and curiosities. Through joyful learning and collaborative play, our program is designed to cultivate growth of children’s physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development, as well as their creative problem-solving skills. Our professional and experienced teachers intentionally prepare a creatively stimulating classroom environment and utilize our outdoor setting so children can explore and gain knowledge about the world around them. This close-knit preschool cultivates relationships, which are the foundation of our safe and nurturing learning environment.

  • That meaningful early learning experiences deepen a child’s curiosity and desire to learn

  • That an emphasis on social-emotional health helps children become competent and capable

  • That a safe, well-designed classroom gives children the autonomy to learn and explore

  • That the family is the child’s first teacher and a cornerstone of the community

  • That open-ended, loose parts enhance the ability to think creatively and solve problems

  • That the process of art exploration is more beneficial to a child’s development than focus on the product

  • That observation is an important tool for meeting the needs of each child

  • That we are all continuous learners, both learning from children and with children

  • That open communication ensures expectations are set and fulfilled

  • That with strong foundation of policies and procedures, especially in health and safety,

a school can have the flexibility to be innovative, take risks, and strive for excellence

Our Curriculum

Daily classroom lesson plans  based on The Creative Curriculum for Preschool integrate Virginia’s Early Learning & Development Standards . The Creative Curriculum is vetted by the Virginia Department of Education and builds a strong foundation for discovery, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Each day, teachers invite children to learn and grow through hands-on experiences that support cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. Large- and small-group activities meet children where they are and encourage them to build friendships, collaborate with others as they explore topics and concepts together. In the comfort of the indoor and outdoor classrooms, children engage in developmentally appropriate, intentional play through STEM activities, process art, and children’s literature. Guided by our experienced teachers, each child’s unique personality and independent learning style can shine. Classroom experiences are thoughtfully designed to reflect evidence-based early childhood learning standards in a safe, warm, and caring environment. Learning centers offer children opportunities for self-expression, confidence, independence, and creativity as they make meaningful discoveries through play.
